Culture in government is very difficult to change but change must happen. It can no longer demand of its citizens an expectation of payment without explanation of services rendered. The value of the taxpayers' dollars must be honored. Waste must be seen as a scourge and efficiency must be rewarded. Ironically the state government has that very concept asked of the citizenry.  The Flex Your Power campaign to reduce electricity waste has been implemented to minimize blackouts. PSAs encourage citizens to have their thermostats at 78 degrees and use washing machines at off peak hours. We also have the government ask us to reduce our carbon footprint, our caloric intake, and maximize our water efficiency. It is time that these friendly reminders are placed in the offices of our government. Government must take its own medicine and spend our dollars wisely.
